Going gluten-free is never something that crossed my mind. And until recently, I never gave it a second thought. It was only when I was invited over to a friend’s home last month and was picking up dessert that I remembered the hosts both had gluten sensitivities. This resulted in endless Google searches as to what someone with gluten sensitivities could eat for dessert (when most desserts have gluten) and phone calls to various bakeries around Lower Manhattan to find a place that had a menu with GF options.
I love a decadent dessert, and in NYC, we are spoilt for choice with some of the countries top pastry shops and dessert bars. I called some of my favorite spots around NYC and was surprised to find out many bakeries do not carry gluten-free options. I did, eventually, find a solution, but it was not as easy as I thought. I know of many options in Los Angeles, a very food-conscious city with regards to health and wellness, but NYC seems to be trailing in this regard.
If you are in NYC, be sure to check out these bakeries below. They are already institutions in the city and their offerings for gluten-free foodies are bound to be just as impressive as the rest of their menu.
