Recently, we traveled to Dubai to attend the bi-annual fashion extravaganza known as Fashion Forward (FFWD). A weekend dedicated to fashion, now in its eighth season, hosted 31 regional ready-to-wear and couture designers this past October. FFWD includes more than runways shows, bringing industry executives, buyers and press each season to give interviews and discuss future currents of fashion. This season included Baume & Mercier Design Director Alexandre Peraldi (check out the photo he took of Memè on Instagram) and Farida Khelfa, the iconic French-Arab model, filmmaker and brand ambassador, for the d3 talks.
FFWD has evolved into a space where creatives gather in an intimate setting for exclusive, regional fashion showcases. The d3 discussions range from sourcing, to funding and trend forecasting, offering practical information to propel industry development. FFWD has created an environment to support designers, bloggers, and all industry professionals. Instead of being exclusive, the organization is uplifting local talents from the Middle East and North Africa. This season, FFWD coordinated a Galeries Lafayette pop-up store showcasing hot-off-the-runway looks for purchase. In addition, a showroom with FFWD designers was apart of Paris Fashion Week, giving more international exposure to FFWD talents.
Fashion Forward has become the ultimate fashion event to discover what local Arabic talents are creating in the Middle East.
