A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to return to the glitz and glam of Dubai’s Fashion Forward (FFWD), the Gulf region’s smaller scale fashion week, for a second time. One of the most rewarding aspects of attending FFWD is discovering new Middle Eastern talent that the organization has taken the time to foster. Oh, and getting to wear the insanely cool creations by local designers isn’t so bad either.

MAJOR MUSE MOMENT

Amira Haroon, a Dubai-based designer I was honored to wear twice for NYFW, recently created an exclusive collection for Ramadan 2017. I was on my way to Dubai, when to my utmost surprise, Haroon decided to name a 4-D sequined two-piece after me. The “Meme” (still not over this) consisted of my wardrobe staple, a pair of flared high-waisted pants and a sleeveless high collar top. Four shades of handsewn sequins cover the base of the lightweight cloth, which are then adorned with jeweled star appliqués, the ultimate festive piece. The attention to detail doesn’t stop there, with scalloped edging finishing the ends of the two-piece set. Haroon also designed detachable two-tier lantern sleeves that fasten under the arm to accompany the top. All I was missing was major 70’s inspired rose-colored aviator shades.  And as if I couldn’t get more excited, Haroon names a scarf from this collection “Marwa”, my given Arabic name. Serving as a muse for Haroon’s Ramadan collection has been a major #careergoals moment. Grateful x a millie.

If you follow us on Instagram Stories, you would have gotten a sneak peek at fresh-off-the-runway collections that debuted over the three-day fashion event. Missed out on our showroom BTS or FFWD runway coverage? Lust over these looks from three local designers I wore to the shows.
