Heading into another Ramadan, the holiest month of the year for Muslims, feels quite bittersweet. On one hand, we are grateful to experience this time of year and reap the benefits of this month of fasting and spiritual practice with our health intact. On the other hand, we will all be isolated from our communities and families, a major source of joy and togetherness in Ramadan. The community dinners, prayer congregations and charity works will basically not exist. If you are live alone, this time will be even more trying in quarantine, breaking fast in isolation and practicing prayer solo during the month.

While we are currently planning out our own self-development schedules and goals for the holy month, we wanted to do something that could bring the spirit and feel of Ramadan into our homes. We have decorated in years prior, but this year it has sort of slipped past us as we have been consumed by news and trying to survive this global health crisis with our sanity, health and livelihood intact. One way we are trying to invoke the spirit of Ramadan is to create a space that encourages us to feel good and bring in a renewed energy. Besides creating a comfortable, serene area strictly for prayer, we have been searching the web for new decorations and festive pieces to uplift our moods and motivate us to get ready for this 30 day stretch. Quarantine is hard enough as is. Adding the element of fasting and good behavior with those around you, when the days feel longer, and the weather gets warmer, makes it more of a challenge. We want to find ways to not fall into a sort of sinkhole. Creating a Ramadan festive atmosphere is one way to avoid that.
