Mariam Al-Sibai is a young up-and-coming Syrian designer, born and bred in London, with the goal of reviving the art of timeless dressing. With her debut collection featuring fuzzy blanket coats and the ultimate Gen Z mellow yellow trench, Al-Sibai aims to curate a wardrobe you can live in forever. Her designs do not reflect trendy silhouettes or time-sensitive trends. It is about pieces for now and for the future, a concept that seems foreign in an age where fast fashion brands are dominating consumer purchases. Yet ask these consumers how long these pieces last, and most will admit that quality does not exist in fast fashion. That’s what sets Al- Sibai apart. Her focus is on quality craftsmanship and producing minimal quantities of each piece. Apart from using superior fabrics and cuts, Al-Sibai has designed essentials for every female’s wardrobe. With archive-worthy palazzo pants, trench coats, and puffer jackets, these are looks you can hand down and wear year after year.
In addition to her seasonal collections, Al-Sibai is planning for limited collaboration pieces like the Mary x Esme belt bag. The square bag is modeled after traditional homewares made by artisans in Syria. Before NYFW, Meme shot with Al-Sibai in the Mary x Esme belt bag. Check out the photoshoot above, including some behind-the-scenes shots. See Meme’s final look for NYFW dressed in Mariam Al-Sibai here.
